Anamnesis appointment with the speech-language pathologist

The anamnesis appointment, or initial consultation, with the speech-language pathologist is a crucial step in establishing a comprehensive and personalized file. Here's what you can expect during this appointment:

Information gathering: The speech-language pathologist will collect detailed information about the client's medical history, personal and family background, as well as specific challenges they are facing. This may include questions about their development, communication, and past experiences with other healthcare professionals.

Discussion of concerns: You will have the opportunity to explain in detail the reasons for your visit, specific concerns, expectations, and the goals you wish to achieve.

Practical details of the appointment:

  • The consultation is offered at a fixed rate and may last up to 45 minutes.

  • This appointment typically takes place virtually via the Zoom platform.

  • It is recommended to send all relevant documents to the speech-language pathologist before the appointment. These documents may include assessment reports, speech-language pathology intervention summaries, relevant reports from neuropsychology, psychology, psychoeducation, occupational therapy, remedial education, school transcripts, school intervention plans, etc.

This initial appointment allows the speech-language pathologist to gather all necessary information to plan the next steps of assessment and treatment. It's a crucial step to ensure that the care you receive will be perfectly tailored to your specific needs.

Note: The fees for the anamnesis appointment are typically covered by insurance. However, it is the client's responsibility to verify the reimbursement terms with their insurer.

Even when your file is managed by a communication and language assistant, the anamnesis appointment is conducted by a speech-language pathologist. Therefore, these fees are generally covered by insurance.
