The file update appointment with the speech-language pathologist is a crucial step to adjust your treatment plan according to your current needs. Here's what you can expect during this appointment:

Updating information: The speech-language pathologist will gather the latest information on the client's medical history, personal and family backgrounds, as well as specific challenges they are currently facing. This may include questions about progress, communication, and recent experiences with other healthcare professionals.

Discussion of current concerns: You will have the opportunity to explain in detail the reasons for your return, your specific concerns, expectations, and the goals you wish to achieve.

Practical details of the appointment:

  • The consultation is offered at a fixed rate and may last up to 45 minutes.

  • This appointment typically takes place virtually via the Zoom platform.

  • It is recommended to send all recent documents to the speech-language pathologist before the appointment. These documents may include assessment reports, speech-language pathology intervention summaries, relevant reports from neuropsychology, psychology, psychoeducation, occupational therapy, remedial teaching, school transcripts, school intervention plans, etc.

This file update appointment allows the speech-language pathologist to gather all necessary information to plan the next steps of reassessment and/or treatment. It's a crucial step to ensure that the care you receive will be perfectly tailored to your specific needs.

Note: The fees for the file update appointment are typically covered by insurance. However, it is the client's responsibility to verify the reimbursement terms with their insurer.

Even when your file is managed by a communication and language assistant, the file update appointment is conducted by a speech-language pathologist. Therefore, these fees are generally covered by insurance.
