Client Responsibilities
It is your responsibility to:
-
verify the details of your insurance coverage (e.g., whether a medical prescription is required, which services are eligible, limitations, exclusions, and documents needed);
-
submit your receipts directly to your insurer for reimbursement.
Cabinet JBM:
-
does not carry out any procedures with insurance companies;
-
does not send documents or receipts directly to insurers;
-
cannot answer questions regarding the specific coverage of different insurance plans.
However, an estimate can be provided upon request to support your verification process.
Why verify your insurance coverage before the first appointment?
Reviewing your coverage before the first appointment allows you to understand:
-
your reimbursement limits (per hour, per appointment, per day, or per year);
-
which services are eligible or excluded under your plan;
-
any conditions or restrictions specific to your contract.
Having this information from the outset:
-
facilitates the discussion with the speech-language pathologist during the service planning appointment;
-
helps plan a realistic and coherent service pathway aligned with your coverage;
-
prevents surprises or unexpected adjustments along the way.
Speech-Language Assessment and Splitting Fees
If a speech-language assessment is planned, knowing your insurance details in advance also helps determine whether splitting the invoice may improve reimbursement.
When insurance information is shared with the speech-language pathologist before or during the service planning appointment, it is sometimes possible to adapt the invoicing to meet the insurer’s requirements — always within ethical guidelines and based strictly on services actually provided.
